Planning for non-planners To explain the current planning system. To clarify the ways in which groups and individuals can have a voice. Sessions in 2006.

 

InspireEast
Project Title Project Aims
Research/best practice development and dissemination into designing out crime and the conflicts between policy/advice eg DCLG/Home Office Want to commission this piece of work in Sept 06 (subject to funding) to provide consistent advice to planners/local authorities/police about design and crime reduction. Taking cross-occupational view to learning developing shared understanding.
Excellence Framework A practical web-based tool which helps to define excellence in sustainable communities through the use of standards.
Health issues Standards/measures for achieving/addressing health issues as part of sustainable communities have been built into the Excellence Framework. The Design Review Panel has a health rep to ensure public health issues are considered as an integral part of the design process. Sept 06.
2 toolkits Developed to demonstrate good practice and provide tools for community engagement in the built environment. One developed by Shape Cambridge on how to involve your community. One developed by Rural Community Council for Essex on statutory planning and how community-led plans can contribute to them. Mar 06.
Market Place event To showcase community engagement tools. To increase knowledge across all sectors/occupations of available tools and techniques. Planned for early 07.

Steering Group. Chair appointed (Phil Hughes) Steering group has three standing org. members plus up to eight additional members. Recruitment commenced.

 

Regeneration East Midlands
Project Title Project Aims
REM hosts both Intelligence East Midlands (Regional Observatory) and Association of Regional Observatories To improve access to research and intelligence on the region to inform policy-making, promote good practice in research and facilitate research coordination. ARO brings together the regional observatories and similar bodies in England and promotes the provision and use of the best data for England’s regions. Ongoing.
Regional Cultural Observatory Planned to address cultural sector information needs. To be hosted by REM alongside other observatory functions. Autumn 06.
Opun Dialogues series and impact of regional design review on place-making (evaluation underway soon). March 06.
