Cross-sector skills To understand more about the demand/supply balance of generic skills in regeneration and SC communities in the West Midlands in order to shape and influence skills development in the region and nationally. March 05.
RegenWM Egan Review Report 2003 Broad ranging consultation to collate information, reports and opinion from all sectors through discussion, round-tables and interviews - see Egan Review: skills for sustainable communities - The West Midlands Agenda.
Workforce Profiling Questionnaire: To establish baseline statistics for the Public Service sector, and set benchmarks for increasing workforce diversity to better reflect local communities as part of the public service compact. The questionnaire measures four key areas: the size of the sector according to six parameters, namely gender, ethnic origin, disability, age, salary level, full/part-time status a subset of roles in the sector which might be described as generic the turnover and growth estimates of generic roles. Identifies hard-to-fill generic roles. Completed May 06.
Competency Frameworks for Generic Families of Jobs An exercise to capture the skills needs for generic families of jobs within the Public Services to produce a picture of the job requirements and expectations of employers who are looking to recruit to these generic posts, and outline the types of skills needed to perform within the role. This information will be distributed amongst and targeted at: individuals seeking employment within the Public Services; intermediaries advising on careers within the secto. Ongoing: one framework completed, two near completion.

Feasibility study for pilot phase Public Sector Academy Project To provide a skills management framework for both the identification and development of the skills needed by the Public Sector on a regional and sub-regional basis. Report Aug 05. Pilot now underway.
CITB/Construction Skills Regional Observatory Identifies skills gaps related to some professional occupations. (Contact with each Regional Observatory may be a useful research resource for the Academy). Underway.

Generic skills research for sustainable communities in HE courses Study of HE provision in the region to ascertain level of generic skills provision. Completed Aug 05. Used to feed into Skills for Sustainable Communities project.
Skills for Sustainable Communities Broadened research from generic skills research project into FE and private training providers. Develop and deliver generic skills training to staff in the private and voluntary sectors. Apr 06-Mar 08.
Regional Cities East Work to identify and address skills gaps among a network of Regional Cities. 05/06 – 06/07. The initial phase, including a skills audit, will be used as the basis for a Learning Laboratory proposal for 06/07.

Funding Advisors Research To understand who is providing funding advice across the region and to set up a database of funding advisors. To establish a funding advisors forum and provide networking and training opportunities. Summer 06.

 

Regeneration East Midlands
Project Title Project Aims
Planning Capacity Study Investigating current issues within local authorities in recruiting appropriately skilled and experienced town planners. Links to regional HE. Commenced Autumn '05, with event in Lincoln Feb '06 – group continues to work forward.
Regeneration/Project management: As above. Ongoing.
Learning Lab, LAAs Assessing skills gaps and development needs, as well as monitoring and evaluating progress on the delivery of LAAs in the region with all key partners and at different rounds. Outcomes include action learning sets, committee, networks and building of resource.
REM Training Programme

Continual evaluation of REM training and network sessions and research through dialogues and assessment on a regional level of provision for skills of those working in SC sector. Outcomes are continual development of the range and reach of REM courses as well as action learning sets which include generic training as well as master classes and targeted training for SC practitioners across:
