Brownfield Skills Strategy
We are working with English Partnerships, the Government's national regeneration agency, to develop a strategy to boost skills that will ensure the effective and efficient reuse of brownfield land.
The public consultation period for the Draft Brownfield Skills Strategy, which makes 25 recommendations, closed on 11 June 2008. A summary of the 46 responses is available to download here and all the responses not requesting confidentiality are also available for download here It is expected that the final strategy will be published by the new Homes and Communities Agency early next year.
This strategy sets out an ambitious framework for action to address skills shortages that impact upon the ability to reuse brownfield land. Employers, community groups, individuals, professional bodies, providers of learning opportunities at all levels and government agencies all have a vital role to play in tackling these skills shortages.
The draft strategy has four objectives:
- Changing attitudes towards skills
- Encouraging cross-disciplinary working
- Raising the profile of brownfield careers
- Promoting a common framework for skills development
