Milton Keynes
We are working with Milton Keynes Council (MKC) on a National Action Project focused on curriculum-making.
Our project showcases best practice in a range of issues concerned with community, sustainability and sense of place in schools. It aims to develop these strong foundations further, producing findings, experience and good practice examples that will be of use to others.
The project brings together 'sustainable communities champions' in selected schools to:
- Look at the sustainable communities agenda
- Explore what it takes to create a sustainable community
- Work on live projects to develop young people's understanding of a 'sense of place'
- Explore how to influence the development of the curriculum to include sustainable communities elements

Its aims are to:
- Develop partnership working around these elements of what it takes to create a Sustainable Community.
- Promote real live projects that further develop in children a sense of place and a recognition of their own role, opportunities and importance within the community.
- Explore how to influence the development of the curriculum to include the core elements of the sustainable communities agenda, including how these support the work of teachers and the development of children's education and aspirations.
- Use action research and learning to build on the initial foundations and further develop ‘best practice' and showcase this on a local, regional and national level.
- Focus and develop young people's skills to shape them for a role in sustainable communities occupations.
- Create a set of activities, learning materials and resources, to support teachers and young people.

The Duke of Kent gives Milton Keynes National Action Project his seal of approval.
